Mesquite Independent School District
Mesquite ISD operates under a mission statement that reflects its purpose: to educate all students and empower them to expand their opportunities.
Each school day, more than 36,000 students on 46 quality campuses receive instruction from caring and highly educated teachers. In fact, 100 percent of Mesquite ISD meet federal “highly qualified” standards. Continuous improvement is one of the school district's core values. As a result, 46 percent of MISD teachers hold master’s degrees (nearly twice the state average), and nine of Mesquite ISD’s campuses are rated Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency; 21 campuses have a Recognized rating. Mesquite ISD has no Academically Unacceptable campuses. MISD is proud to have two nationally recognized Blue Ribbon Schools selected and honored by the U.S. Department of Education. Excellence goes beyond the classroom in MISD with awarding-winning clubs, accomplished athletic teams and comprehensive fine arts programs. It also extends to the district’s leadership. In 2007, the MISD Board of Trustees was recognized as one of the top five school boards in Texas.
MISD provides the best educational opportunities possible with specialized academic programs to serve all students and a vast array of extracurricular offerings. But MISD knows that education doesn’t end with high school graduation. That’s why the district developed its own curriculum that encourages all students in grades K-12 to pursue some form education beyond high school, such a college, trade school or the military.
With limited resources funding public education, MISD must adhere to prudent financial stewardship and seek innovative ways to reduce costs. For the seventh consecutive year, Mesquite ISD has received a “Superior Achievement” rating under Texas’ Schools FIRST financial accountability rating system. The district also possesses one of the highest bond ratings of any school district in Texas. The outstanding reports from respected financial firms Fitch IBCA and Standard & Poor’s result in substantial interest savings for taxpayers. Bond funds have allowed the district to manage the area’s rapid growth while revitalizing older campuses through renovations and technology upgrades. Further, by embracing innovative programs to utilize greener technology, MISD has been able to reduce its energy costs and invest those savings in other areas.
